SUV Event 2005
Sand Lake
After dinner we were headed to the
Sand Lake Recreation Area in the
Siusla National Forest. We needed a marker flag
for the dunes so Richard loaned me one and I zip-tied it to my rear tire
carrier. Thankfully
there were no surprise repairs needed this time when we lined up go. |

After a
few highway miles we arrived at Sand Lake and headed out to the beach to
regroup, take a group photo, and air down.
Going down to 10 psi made a world of difference in the sand.

After
photos we headed down the beach to play in the bowls. |

Jen was
convinced that it wasn't really possible to drive in the deep sand.
It didn't take long before she was a believer.
We drove down the beach a
while and then hung a right up into the dunes. |

Darryl
hopped in the Jeep and coached Jen up the dune.
That's her
on the right about halfway to getting stuck!
Jen's a
little tentative at hitting the gas (but not in the Kia) so she didn't
have enough speed to crest the hill.
Jen
backed down, tried again, and made it the second time no problem.

Kyle had
offered to give us a ride in his Toyota so while Jen was busy getting
stuck I took him up on it. I need a V8!

We were
having so much fun that "Boss Hog" stopped by to give it try in this crazy Caddie. |
|
There was
some nasty whoops at the base of the dune so you had to take it easy at
first to get past them and then jam on it to get up the dune. Made
for a wild ride.
A few rigs were drag racing
up the hill.

It
started to get dark so we headed back. At the edge of the dunes we
stopped at a camp ground and aired our tires back up.
Back at
camp quite a few people sat around the campfire and BS'd till late.
I heard people were up till 4 am but I didn't make it that long. I
hit the sack after a few beers.
